With the ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies, the ‘long’ pipes became quite popular. Especially gothic fans seemed to love them, and on many medieval fairs these long smoking devices could often be seen in use.
Experts refer to these pipes with their extra-long stems as ‘Churchwarden’ or ‘reading pipes’. Originally, they were designed for home use. They offer two great advantages: first, the long path the smoke has to travel through the stem cools it down significantly; second, the smoke does not rise into your eyes while reading.
Like most of our pipes, the ‘Longus’ series is made of high-quality briar wood (Erica arborea). Thanks to its heat-resistant properties and pleasant taste, briar has become the dominant material in pipe making. The mouthpiece is made of low-maintenance, taste-neutral acrylic.
