Description
Montague was the last representative of the so-called Family Era. In 1960, the Barlings decided to sell the company founded in 1812 to their best customer, Finley, who in turn sold it to Imperial Tobacco in 1963. Such a noble pipe brand in the hands of a cigarette conglomerate did not bode well.
Production ceased in 1970, with Peterson and Nörding taking over external production. The glamorous name passed through various overwhelmed hands, either doing the wrong things or nothing at all.
Barling, Dunhill, GBD, Sasieni, Charatan, and BBB - that was the absolute English Champions League. They competed with patents, new processes, shapes, and breathtaking qualities.
