Peterson is famous for its elaborate silver applications, all of which are handcrafted and individually fitted to each pipe by silversmiths Jason Hinch and Simon Ellard.
According to Irish law, the precious metals gold, silver and platinum must undergo a purity test at the Assay Office located in Dublin Castle before they can be released for sale.
Each Peterson pipe is marked with three hallmarks:
- The symbol of Hibernia (a queen on a throne), identifying Ireland as the country of origin.
- The crowned harp, certifying the authenticity of the sterling silver.
- A letter that changes annually, indicating the year in which the silver was approved.
This final hallmark provides an excellent way to determine the year of production of your Peterson pipe.
